Envalior to showcase innovative lightweight battery solutions at North American Battery Show
Press release - 07 October 2024
Envalior, a leading provider of engineering material solutions for the automotive and electronics industries, proudly announces its participation in the North American Battery Show, taking place from October 7-10 at Huntington Place, Detroit, MI (Booth #1130).
- Envalior engineering materials solutions meet customers’ growing demand for sustainable and high-performance battery technologies in electric vehicles (EVs) and electronic devices.
- Envalior has addressed standards for fire and electrical safety in high-voltage connectors with proven solutions that meet CTI 600 and other materials that have a higher tracking resistance of up to 900 V.
- Envalior has tackled the issue of highly flammable electrolytes in Lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) with its SuccinoNitrile (SN) electrolyte additive, greatly reducing the risk of thermal runaway.
Detroit, MI – October 7, 2024 At this year’s event, Envalior is featuring a variety of cutting-edge applications designed to enhance battery performance, safety, and efficiency. With a strong focus on lightweight and sustainable materials, these innovations address the rising demand for high-performance battery solutions in electric vehicles (EVs) and advanced electronic devices. The company’s solutions showcase its commitment to advancing sustainability in the rapidly changing EV and battery technology sector.
“Our commitment to innovation is driven by the evolving needs of the automotive and electronics industries,” said Grace Showalter, Envalior Regional Commercial Director – Americas. “At the North American Battery Show, we aim to demonstrate how our advanced materials can contribute to the development of next-generation battery solutions.”
Some of the solutions highlighted at the Envalior booth include:
- Strong Yet Lightweight Battery Housings: To meet the EV industry’s demand for lighter, stronger, and safer products, the first fully functional high-voltage battery enclosureA housing made entirely of engineered plastics was developed. This innovative solution, made from Durethan® B24CMH2.0 + 45% LGF (PA6) and Tepex® dynalite 102-RGUD600 thermoplastic composite sheet technology, offers lower weight, lower cost, and a lower carbon footprint compared to metal designs.
- Thermal Runaway Prevention with Stanyl® SN-Pure Lithium-ion batteries (LiBs) are the preferred solution for battery-powered vehicles due to their higher output and energy density, but the electrolyte inside these battery cells is highly flammable. Envalior has addressed this problem with its Succinonitrile Stanyl SN-pure electrolyte additive. SN-pure reduces harmful gas generation and protects the cathode, greatly reducing the risk of thermal runaway.
- Safe High-Voltage Connectors: Envalior offers high-voltage connectors with CTI 600 V, in accordance with IEC 60112, as well as materials with a higher tracking resistance of up to 900 V. These materials have been tested and shown to meet UL and IEC standards for fire and electrical safety. Suggested grades include ForTii® T11, ForTii® TX1, Akulon® SG-KGS6/HV and Pocan® BFN4232HR.
At The Battery Show NA 2024, Envalior (booth #1130) is presenting innovative materials for the electric vehicle market, including solutions for improved protection from thermal runaway and materials for high-voltage charging systems that demonstrate high CTI.
